I think Gibbs' influence on myself & other fans was so deep that it brought back our concept of who the redskins are, in that you could actually associate players & coaches w/the team again. Between 2000-2004, this team's identity was no identity, players & coaches came & went. In that climate, hiring Fassel, an ex-giant, would've not been a big deal. Now, we've actually tasted some continuity & feel like we have a team, so not hiring GW was viewed so negatively.
Like some others have posted, I believe that not hiring GW was the real reason behind the fan reaction more than anit-fassel feelings.

I agree, and said the exact same thing in a previous post. When the list of coaches was compiled [notwithstanding the return of Gibbs] Jim Fassels' name was atop the list. The backlash directed towards Fassel I do not believe to be personal, but in retaliation to Williams not being given the job.
