There has been several comments on ESPN about it, and even Mortenson said it's not likely the major reason he's retiring, but it is a reason. Favre knew he wasn't going to get anyone in FA to help, and he likely wanted to "stack the deck" to make a run, but the packers weren't willing to do that.

I am going to miss that guy, I loved the way he played, and loved to watch him every week. He was a giant kid on the field and the toughest qb of all time bar none. It's a dark day for football today people.
