I like the custom scripts per site idea on Firefox as well, that's another reason I'll check it out.

custom scripts for a page (like moving frames or pieces around, etc) is done with the greasemonkey and platypus scripts... their websites should have a repository of scripts for specific sites in case you don't want to or don't know how to write your own (though there's help for that too, if you want it).
to stop pop ups/ads, adblock plus and adblock filterset.g updater... that'll automatically update and keep most things blocked, and you can use it to right click and adblock individual images/elements, or throw wildcards (like
http://ad.* and
http://ads.*) as needed
you should probably get IEView too, it just lets you right click and choose "View this page/link in Internet Explorer" in case you need it (sometimes adblock will block videos that try to load video ads before playing the real content, and if you don't want to go through and unblock them, it's quicker to just pop it into IE... it might just be overzealousness on my part that blocked them though)
I'd also suggest GooglePreview (shows a thumbnail of linked pages next to google results) and Gmail Manager (IF you use a gmail account... there's another plugin that'll let you use Gmail as an ftp/storage server too, but not that many people need to do that).
