My FORD has had ONLY an alternator failure. Now it's 10 years old with 120,000 miles and still runs perfect.
Also, if the timing belt ever does break, unlike a Honda, there will be no valve damage because it is a non-interference engine. New belt, check the timing and it's like new again.
I do agree, something is fishy here. Engines don't just "fall apart internally" and $6500 is ridiculous. If it DOES need a new engine, find a wrecked Accord and take the engine out of it.
