Re: MD football game forfeit
Football games always get heated. I've been on the other end of that as well. Most of the guys that were successful football players in my area were black. Being a white varsity starter I was subjected to a constant barrage of racial comments from black guys on the field. This isn't something new.
Not at all saying that it's acceptable by any means, and hopefully the coach made a right decision by taking his team off the field and getting the attention of the national media. No better way to throw egg on someone's face, I guess...
I do wonder, though if it was the right thing to do as far as what he's teaching his kids... I mean quitting. I know there are things that are bigger than football, and this behavior shouldn't be tolerated, but to quit during the game and allow the opposing teams comments to get to his players and himself to that point I think sends the wrong message. Maybe someone uses that instance as justification at some other point in life for completely losing it over someone else's comments. The world is not always a pretty place. You cannot control what other people do, and you're going to face ignorance throughout life that you have to learn to work around...
tough situation.
