This is so true. I live is a small city is southeastern North Carolina. 20 years ago this was Redskins territory. Back in those days almost everyone in North Carolina was a Skins fan. Skins memorabilia could be found everywhere from sports stores to Grocery stores to "quickie marts". Then along came the Panthers and that took some people away but it is still pretty much split among the natives and many of them follow both teams because they grew up Skins fans but the Panthers are now our local team. What has changed is the amount of Steelers Fans who have moved into our area. We now have two Sports Bars that are known as Steelers hang outs on game days but no such bars for either the Redskins or Panthers. There is a huge Steelers fan club that advertises in the local newspaper but no such thing that I know of for either the Panthers or Skins whom most of the natives follow. People down here are fanatical about their college sports(UNC, Duke, NC State Wake etc...) and aren't very tollerant of invading fans but when it comes to the NFL I guess people have just come to grips with the fact that there are a ton of Steelers fans and they are here to stay. They're like locusts.
