Number one, nobody knew Mark Brunell was going to play as badly as he had. Number two, nobody knew that the receivers would be as bad with percentage of catches as they have been.
Number three, Patrick Ramsey was not ready for this system, which he showed against the Giants earlier this season and he admitted that himself!
Number four, we have countless number of injuries on our offensive line....and we're playing our back-ups to our back-ups.
Number five, it takes time for an offensive system to iron out all the kinks...much longer than just one season. Even the mighty Spurrier could tell ya his system wasn't flawless..of course the beatings that Ramsey took last year could be proof.
Which speaking of what Gibbs has done for us:
He's brought in an excellent coaching staff..namely Williams.
He's restored more protection for the QB than what was obviously there last year....and it will be more relevant once the starters on the offensive line are together again.
He's restored unity. Last year it was Steve Spurrier and his offense...not Spurrier and the Redskins.
Gibbs' players believe in him.
Yeah, we won't see the full benefit this year. He's in it for the long haul which means it isn't going to be one year and suddenly we see sunny days again. He's having to start from scratch and build a foundation that is going to keep this team strong for years to come. That doesn't happen over night....
