No one is calling Jason Campbell trash. Jason Campbell is an okay QB in the NFL. He's a serviceable starter -- but he's not exactly a franchise QB. I think, as Redskins fans, we often end up over valuing our players. Every player that takes a snap in the NFL has the potential to be great, and often shows glimpses. But it really comes down to performance. While in football everyone must act as a cohesive unit, responsible players are also very responsible for their play.
For instance, Jason Campbell gets sacked a lot. Part of this responsibility falls on the offensive line. Part of it also falls on Campbell. He's always trying to make a play, thus sometimes takes the big hit. It's a trade off. No one is calling Jason Campbell a bum, but when you compare him to a QB with the stature of Cutler, Jason Campbell is simply in a class below.

We haven't really given Campbell the tools he has needed to succeed. Giving him new systems / new coaches, small WR's, a banged up Oline, and worst of all, no real leash seems to be unfair. How do we know he isn't as good or better than Jay Cutler? Keep in mind people around the league were ready to trash Cutler until they found out he was a diabetic and just needed to control his insulin.
When people are ready to ship our starting QB off and ready to draft a kid to replace him they are basically saying he is a bum. I understand your points, I can see the lure of Cutler, but I am just not sure this is the answer...especially considering we would be taking a HIT to do so.
