I think because the people that do this for a living have made a
LOT of mistakes in judgment. As evidence, you take all of the expected saviors turned busts, organizations like the Lions, and even the last failed trade attempt by the redskins.
The problem is, like any other business - they don't judge by performance, they judge mostly based on hype and measured qualifications. And that goes for picking the employees that work within the front office also.
The true eye-for-talent looks beyond all of this.
