They don't really have a government so I'm not sure who you're going to apply pressure on. They have a federal government with wannabe leaders no one listens to and they don't have the teeth to go along with words. Asking them to do anything is akin to asking a retarded person for assistance. If there's one country that embodies a post apocalyptic society we're all so familiar with in the movies it's Somalia.

As far as satellite surveillance I'm not sure we have enough resources or are ready to pull resources from Iraq, North Korea, Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan. Honestly, if we were capable we would be doing it. Priacy off the coast of Somalia is nothing new and is a 100+ million dollar business in a country where the GDP is ~5 billion.


What these ships need to do is hire an escort service for protection or have on-board armed guards.
