Daseal, between your thoughts and the advice in this thread, sounds like you are on the right track. Once you figure out exactly what you want covered, shop around.
In the DC Area, CareFirst BC/BS has a solid reputation, as well as MAMSI/United HealthCare. I have Unicare through my company (based in VA) and it's been decent. I fought with them during my first child's birth over some coverage issues, but other than that, they've been pretty good with everything else. These are the 3 companies I've had experience with, but there are others.
I guess I'm trying to say for any of the quotes you get, make sure you ask others what they think of the company and their experiences. It would suck to get into a plan and end up paying a whole lot more than you bargained for.
