I would think that they'd deflect, just like most fans would do. They say something like "Manny might not have been clean in 2004, but neither was Player-X on the the Marlins in 2003, or Player-Y on The Angels in 2002..." I don't think it's really a vaild excuse but I can understand why they would make it.
