I can't help but think that he did that on purpose to ensure it would be remembered
But, when I played baseball in high school, we had a centerfielder who had a cannon of an arm. He could gun down a runner going home on one hop (if that) from deep at the warning track.
One fine spring game, we were short on pitchers and actually had none left that we could use with just two innings left to play in the game. So I suggested to the coach "How about Dave? He's got a good arm" So out come Dave from CF to the mound...and he was awful. The pitches were going everywhere. He had no sense of standing in place, winding up, and hitting a target 60 feet away. All he could do is run and fire the ball 300 feet away. It was sad, so sad, to see wild pitch after wild pitch.
