it depends...the tsunami is what caused most of the devastation...people never saw it coming. I am pretty sure we can't have any earthquakes out in the middle of the pacific or atlantic so we won't have the threat of a tsunami, like they yeaterday. if a quake hit east of japan, there is a possibility of a tsnami hitting hawaii but i don't think it would ever reach the west coast....it would have to be one really really big earthquake. so to answer your question no, the toll would never be near what happened today. funny thing is i was reading just the other day about how that asteroid might hit us in 2029....it jumped from a 1 in 300 chance to a 1 in 45 chance in just a few days...they talked about if it hit in the middle of the atlantic it would cause a huge tsunami like wave to hit us and the easter european countries. and then to wake up and hear about a tsunami today was really weird.
