Unfortunately, while I think most of the folks who get offended by this kind of stuff are honorable people, they are deluding themselves if they believe that this game and those who participate in it are somehow above such lewdness.

Football is a vulgar sport. Football players are vulgar men. Football fans are, by and large, vulgar people.

Though desiring good sportsmanship and decorum is a noble aspiration, it overlooks the fundamental realities of this game, and the social and cultural forces that have shaped it.

I think it's sad that sportsmanship is an antiquated notion, but it doesn't surprise me. Look at the world we live in.
