Shanaghan and Cowher are coaches that may be better suited for the redskins especially considering the team's current situation. They are different from one another in their coaching and offensive style of play, but both should bring in a better ground game and more than likely solidify the offensive line.
I know some folks don't like Cowher (I do). But one thing about him that I think is positive by any objective measure is that he brought in very good assistant coaches and gave them real roles (Grimm, Tomlin). Having a core group of solid, experienced coaches is important, and Cowher can build that. We've been hit and miss in that department.
