During Gibbs 1.0, there wasn't a pass receiving tight end on the level of Cooley. Those offenses did okay. While guys like Cooley are nice to have, they aren't necessarily a must for prolific offenses.
I guess it would depend on what type of offense you bring in. If we go with another coach who's a West Coast guy, you'd have to find a capable replacement. But again, going with the premise of the original question, if you're on your way to building a solid offensive line that can give your QB plenty of time, and pave the way for bruising running game, it wouldn't be
that hard to find a tight end that could get the job done.
