Re: Schefter calls Skins job "desirable"
I can agree with it. We have a top defense. We have a proud history and multiple Lombardis.
If an incoming coach can work out a deal with Snyder that clearly outlines responsibilities and gives the coach some control...or allows them to work with a new, competent GM...there's the chance to build another Redskins dynasty. Only a big name coach like Shannahan, Cowher or Holmgren could achieve this kind of deal, but they've already earned it with their past success. I believe Snyder really wants a winner and would not interfere with a top-name coach. When Vinny is fired, we're already on the right track.
I have heard Cowher wants to go to a Pittsburgh-like situation...well...that's us. Solid defense. The Steelers offense was weak when he started there...they had Greg Lloyd, Rod Woodson, Carnell Lake and others on D...led by Neil O'Donnell and Bubby Brister at QB and a Barry Foster/Merril Hoge backfield. They were not a great offense for a few years until Bettis arrived in '96, but he managed to win thanks to the defense.
It looks bad now, but this is a franchise that could rise back to power very quickly.
