I believe in drafting the best player available regardless of need. Having said that, if the talent is roughly equal among the top players available when we pick, to me we should go with a wide receiver.
Our offense is obviously the top priority in terms of improving the talent. We will improve with experience and Jansen's return on the offensive line. We are giving the keys to Ramsey as long as he keeps improving Gibbs says, and we can expect he will. We have a superb running back. We have Cooley. What is the glaring need?
To me it is speed at wide receiver. Speed first, and then also consistency and dependability. We have to stretch the field. We have to take advantage of Ramsey's arm strength. We have to get all the defenders out of the box to allow Clinton Portis to show what he is capable of. We got Portis but we didn't give him any opportunity to shine.
So for one thing, I would like to see Taylor Jacobs become a starter. He has speed and I think he's a natural. Let's give him a chance and see if he can rise to the occasion. But we need to bring in a wide receiver, and there are going to hopefully be some available - Williamson or Edwards are the kind that fit best with us.
I hope we don't go out and break the bank on an expensive free agent receiver. We don't have to find a guy who is going to be in the prime of his career next year because we have to think a little longer term I think. But if we can draft Williamson or Edwards I think they will have a very significant immediate impact.
