Everyone has a perfect right to run his team like a business and make as much money as he can. Danny Boy forked out about $800M for the team - not much of it was his but that's a detail - and he is making money on his investment. It's hard to fault him for that.
On the other hand, the consumer(s) - read "fans" - have the same inalienable right to refuse to do business with him on his terms. And if enough of them do that, he'll change the rules pronto.
Remember about 5 or 6 years ago when one of the credit card companies said it was going to charge people who did not run up interest charges a higher annual fee? And for those cards with no annual fee, there would be one if you paid off the bill every month? How long did that last? It lasted until ONE other company said it would not do that and in about a month that other company was swamped with people changing over from the card that proposed to charge the holders. That idea was rescinded pronto because it ceased to make business sense.
That is when Danny Boy will change his mind on this; when it no longer makes business sense. The one thing he can't do is to refuse to take cash for the tickets because it is "Legal tender for all debts public and private". So, if a bunch of consumers wanted to go to the Skins' ofices and pay off their $2500 tickets with 2500 one dollar bills and to demand a receipt for that transaction, that might make things less attractive from a business perspective.
Or how about a wheelbarrow full of dimes...
