Tom Brady can read defenses well and he is a cool customer. The latter trait really is important and it lets him be an exceptional team leader. Other traits he has in terms of physical skills are solid but not extraordinary. Brady really brings the mental aspect of the game to a level probably as good as we have seen.
Montana to me had superior physical skills. He was a very accurate passer. You really felt that when the game was on the line, Montana had a magic that no one else had. Montana also was a very cool customer and excellent leader.
Brady has a lot of the things Montana had, but I don't feel like teams are scared to death of Tom Brady by himself. Teams were scared to death of Joe Montana.
Joe Montana won four Super Bowls by the way, so Brady is still one short in that area.
To me Joe Montana was a great legend, while Tom Brady is the consummate team quarterback on a dynasty team with excellent leadership skills. I don't think of Brady as having the kind of package by himself that Montana had.
