I think Shanahan is better than who we have, and probably whoever might be available, but there are two things that bug me about his record:

The Broncos have had the best home record in pro football over the past 32 years
He has won only one playoff game without Elway / Davis

Now, his results might be better in Washington, but if there's one thing that is a common theme is that people get worse when they come here. Still, winning two super bowls back to back requires significant coaching and personnel. Hopefully if we bring the right personnel here with our new FO layout, we will enjoy some good football around here.
