The years weren't really significant, obviously neither party thought he was going to here for 7 years. It was just the way the deal was structured to stretch out and lessen the cap hits. If you do a shorter deal, his cap impact would have been much higher.

During Gibbs 2.0, Vinny's job was to provide talent evaluations leading up to free agency and the draft. In that regard, the Skins passing on Kellen Winslow to draft Sean Taylor, then trading up to the 3rd round to get Cooley (the first two draft choices of Gibbs 2.0) may have been Vinny's finest hour here. That said, Gibbs had
final say on all moves during his 2nd tour of duty.
