From what I understand he is due a bonus of $5M on April 1. He has supposedly agreed to forfeit that bonus for his outright release.

There is also talk that he would agree to forfeit that $5M bonus if a deal could be struck with a trade partner and they would pay him the bonus instead.

Actually the cap hit won't be the same, if he forfeits bonus money that will reduce his cap hit by the amount he forfeits.

It seems like we're going to take a hit for him no matter what, only question is how much.
