Over the weekend, word emerged from the Florida Times-Union that the Jacksonville Jaguars wouldn't retain Torry Holt and Tra Thomas, and both vets would be free to start exploring other options. The move is expected to be made Monday.
Although there's already been speculation on where Holt might wind up, the market for Thomas might be a little drier. However, several teams are currently hoping to bolster their bookend linemen through the draft, and even if they get a nice option in April, Thomas could come in as a swing backup and also provide some veteran guidance off the field. Teams that fall into that category include the 49ers, Bills,
Redskins and Chiefs.

Comment: Thomas is an 11-year veteran who is 34 years old. He is an extremely durable player who has been a mainstay at LT for the Eagles his entire career. He has excellent size with long arms and good hand use. He does a good job of sealing off angles in the run game. He is a tall LT who tends to be upright on contact, but can position himself quickly out of his stance and lock down defenders with his hands. He has some trouble making reach blocks or climbing to secure the block in space at the second level, but he gives good effort. In pass protection his foot quickness is descending. He has a long reach to push defenders past the pocket, if he can't mirror the rush all the way up field. He is quick with his hands to punch or steer defenders off their path and then he can reset his feet and react to a second move. He has excellent reactions, but because he is a naturally tall player, he has trouble sinking his weight quickly once a defender gets into his frame.
