I have a question in this regard. Couldn't we sign whoever we sign this year a contract with a HUGE upfront payday and a million a year for each year of the contract after so if the salary cap comes back we would be safe. Like, for instance, if we gave Peppers (just for example) 80 million for 7 years (the numbers don't matter for the question), and it was 56 million salary year 1, 4 million each year after, no signing bonus.

I realize that is an extreme example, and you would run the risk of them getting injured in year one and you being out a lot of money, but the same thing goes with huge signing bonuses.
