His behavior and other problems have totally outweighed any potential good he could do here, especially over the last 2 seasons. I think he has worn out his welcome with most of the players, except for his close friends like Moss.

He has already had his prime. Taking nothing away from his achievements, he hit the wall physically during the mid part of 2008, and he has been fading fast ever since. You can't count on him to make a full season injury free. He isn't the guy that's going to go out there and get you 100 yds a game anymore.

I think the smartest move the team could make would be to get a young RB, not a retread like some of these old guys we are bringing in. We have one old worn out back. Getting another 30 year old back is ridiculous. We need someone who can step in this year when they will have to, and lead this team at the RB position.
I think the team perspective would be phrased more like this:
1 - We have an "old" guy who
a) is familiar with the coach,
b) is on the right side of 30,
c) proven his effectiveness in the past.
2 - There is a glut on the market of backs in the 29+ age range, so there is no trade market for a back who may be developing concussion issues
3 - We can pick up a quality, but old, vet who could step in if CP doesn't step up and practice and tow the line of a locker room leader, or at least not a problem child
4 - In April, if we can pick up some additional picks, or if the 4th round has one of our RB top prospects, than we will take a RB at that point.

The team goal is to improve the talent, coaching and player effectiveness. Shorting ourselves because CP didn't thrive in our former system doesn't accomplish any of that
