I think the argument can be had that CP hasn't had any degree of explosiveness as a runner since his age 25 season (2006). He was highly
effective in 2008, particularly in power running, but even during that year, he never really created anything as much as he simply took the corner when Samuels, Cooley, Kendall, and Sellers (all of which had great run blocking years) got it for him.
I think the timing of his effective year was just unfortunate, perfectly placed between two years where he was useless to us as a runner. If he had produced consecutive seasons with no big runs, he probably wouldn't have made it this far. But because of the small hope that he'll rebound this year, it seems we're kind of stuck with him, for at least one more year.
