The oppurtunity cost of getting Cutler turned out to be Orakpo. Basically, a QB negator vs. a QB.
Now, even with the heightened importance of the QB position, most Super Bowl winning teams have other cornerstones besides a QB. Namely, an above-average to elite pass rusher, a solid O-line, at least one playmaker in the secondary and linebacking corps, special teams, and a coach who can coach. Had Cutler come here, we would have still been stuck with incompetent Zorn, a soft defense that's about as archaic and predictable as one could get, and a shitty running game that in turn leads into a one-dimensional and ineffective offense.
