I don't think they will suspend him more than 3 games. 2 doesn't seem strong enough to send a message, and 4 seems excessive for someone not even charged with a crime.
3 games is a good compromise of being tough yet fair, but not overly harsh. They also don't want to risk a challenge from the NFLPA or Big Ben's lawyers.
Also Rooney is highly involved with Goodell in this, and he doesn't want his team out of contention for a playoff spot. Goodell and Rooney will work in concert for a strong, just punishment, but one that leaves Pittsburgh in good playoff position.
I will be very curious to see how the new schedule shakes out. I would not be surprised if the Steelers have an easy start to their season. Conspiracy theory? Maybe, but Rooney Is the NFL more than anyone on the planet.
