So far this mentality has worked. I mean, you cant really argue with the best overall regular season record...and it was by a landslide.

That's the kind of mindset that gets you beat. The deeper you go into the playoff the better the defenses get....WTF are they going to do when they can't score 5/6 goals? They sure as shit won't have a good enough defense to stop the other team from scoring.
