Oh yeah, I've heard all the stories about "Reid wanting to do right by McNabb". But the truth to the matter is McNabb adamantly stated he would not be traded to Buffalo or Oakland. The reason he was in the drivers seat on this one was he only had one year left on his current contract in Philly. And the acquiring team would need to renegotiate that in to an extension. All McNabb had to do if traded to Buffalo or Oakland, is not agree to terms, hence the trade would be nullified and he is back in Philly.

So McNabb did have a say in where he went.

And if he really was concerned about McNabb going to a division rival, he would have just not traded him at all.
Actually the bolded line is completely wrong. McNabb had 1 year left on his contract, so if they traded him, he would have had to go or retire, either way the trade would not be automatically nullified. Just as if we don't extend McNabb, he is still obligated to play this year for us or retire, no nullification would occur.
BUT, as Matty said, Reid has a good relationship and did not want to ship him off to distant lands (although he might have if the compensation was right) so he shopped him here. I also think that the FO said they weren't carrying all 3, and they were keeping Kolb, so choose McNabb or Vick, and they weren't getting a second let alone a second and a 3/4 for Vick, so cya McNabb.
