Check the facts on how much pressure this oil is under, or how deep it is.  A tragic example, is the mining explosion, they weren't able to just go rushing in to try and save those guys, they had to account for what nature was doing.    
 
I am not defending BP, I don't really know how long it would take a super well prepared team to go and stop the spill, but somehow, your basic expectation seems simply unrealistic.

 So this is acceptable? WOW...Your talking about a massive company who for massive profits does this all the time claiming they have this advance technology and ability to have limited impact to the environment around them and has a pretty good track record, but accidents do happen.
