Her reason for wanting to maintain normal contact is that she considers this a special and unique friendship. I deflected to one of our mutual female friends and she said that I know her better and I'm always the first person she calls. She acknowledged that this is selfish on her part, but she's standing firm that this isn't fair.

Basically this all sounds like the dick in the glass routine by Chris Rock. Except I went from friend to lover and now back to friend.

Anyway, that's where things are for now. We're not going to speak unless we run into each other or it's a life changing decision she's making. We'll see.
