Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Smoot, Davis, Thomas and Kelly all fail the conditioning test either last year or the year prior?

I think you make an excellent point here. I saw an article by Tedi Bruschi of the Patriots who said that he would practice in the offseason for a similar test that the Pats gave each of their players at the start of Training Camp. He said he felt that he needed to practice for the test because he needed to get his pace right and to refine his technique. It seems that it's not just a matter of conditioning but that AH probably needs to practice for the test a little to get his pace and technique down.
Is Shanahan messing with him a little about the test? Probably. But Shanahan is so rules-based and exacting that I doubt that Shanny will relent any time soon and cut AH some slack if AH keeps failing the test.
I hope that AH passes the test soon so this doesn't become another issue between him and Shanahan. I think he will. At his point, after two failures to pass the test, I'd like to think that AH has too much pride as an athlete to let the test beat him.
BTW, having Haynesworth start out camp as a 2nd Teamer is a pure revenge move by Shanahan. After all, Trent Williams, a rookie who didn't know a thing about playing pro football, much les Shanahan's offense, practiced with the 1st Team on day one of his NFL career.
Don't misunderstand me; I'm not shifting over to Haynesworth's side. I still think that he could have compromised with Shanahan and acted like a better teammate during the offseason. But I also like to think that I'm fair-minded enough to call bullshit on Shanahan, as well, when his actions start to look like they may be personal rather than professional. To be clear, Shanahan demoting Haynesworth to 2nd Team was personal and it is bullshit.
