Re: Redskins vs. Bills (Preseason Game 1) Thread

It's my 3rd time watching the game.

Notes regarding the defense: Henson looked solid digesting plays and making plays on the ball. Blades appeared to be lost. Carter may be a liability in pass coverage, most noticeably in the flats. I expect Alexander to get reps with the first team next week to see how he fares. He played well and didn't look like 'a DL trying to play LB'. Riley seems to have been a solid draft pick. He has a nose for the ball. Hall had an INT (Carriker pressure), Tryon had a couple of pass deflections against reserves. Starting defense seemed to settle down after BUFs first scoring drive. The front seven will need every one of these preseason games to iron out assignments and vulnerabilities. Fletcher still impresses after all these years. Haynesworth is a beast. He will make his presence known with the first team next week. Chris Wilson looks to be a natural 3-4 OLB.

The offense: Let's give Beck more time before we mull cutting Brennan. Nonetheless, Grossman looks as if he's been running this offense for a while. He and McNabb made good decisions and used thier feet to convert a first down. McNabb was throwing darts and Cooley has hands of glue! Almost every combination of OL performed well. Oldenburg and William Robinson at OT are a little shaky. An illegal formation on Trent Williams and a false start on Edwin Williams were significant penalties (Trent Williams' negated a 30+ yard play). As much production as Torain had, I liked what I saw from Keiland more. Keiland makes 'something out of nothing'. Again, gaping holes contributed to Torain's stats. Devin Thomas had the third best recieving game behind Cooley and Roydell Williams. Yes, Thomas muffed a KOR and didn't catch a good ball thrown to him but, everything else he did was solid. Dennis Morris DNP. Daryl Young spelled Sellers. Wade's performance was overrated. I recall only one or two catch(es), an equivilant of misses and conversions by defensive pass interference.

Special teams: I was hoping Austin would have a good showing as he would look to be a legitimate WR on the depth chart. Nada. Brandon Banks stole the show. He made me nervous not fielding one punt though. Armstrong and Austin caught some balls on offense but, need to be able to help in the return game to stick on 53 man roster. They didn't do much last night. Roydell recovered a muffed KOR. Bidwell is a stud.

Game balls
offense: Cooley
defense: Hall
sp teams: Banks
honorable mention: Trent Williams, Roydell Williams
