This year was the first in a long while that Portis had to WORK to keep his job. Larry Johnson and Parker both were pushing him. I dont care what people said.
Portis knew that it was shape up or ship out. Shanahan let him go in Denver because of a salary/holdout threat, and so CP knew he couldnt get away with it again here.
Bottom line is, we are probably seeing Portis final run as a redskin. He is the last piece from the old regime that needs replaced. he wont be here next year due to his salary and the fact that this is his 3rd season in a row where he has missed games due to injury...

Do you mean because this is the last year of his guaranteed $? That could be the case, but that could also be the reason he stays - he won't cost as much. I don't know the details of his contract but if he's still under contract next year at a reasonable price, keep him as a 3rd down back & draft a young rb (or 2) to go w/he & Torain, maybe Williams.
Now that Shanny has gotten him to work, CP as a 3rd down back would be ideal, and they won't be likely to find anyone to fill that role next year in the draft.
