I'm not convinced that Shanahan thinks McNabb is his long-term answer at QB.

When I think long term qb's, I'm thinking qb's that can be your consistently good qb for 10+ seasons. McNabb had 3-5 years left in him max, so he wasn't a long term answer anyways. I'm not ready to make a judgement on him after 8 games, so maybe the next 8 will give us some better insight. If he can improve and give us 1-2 more seasons I'd be fine with that, but I think we need to bring in a quarterback next season to be groomed for 1-2 years.
Is it too much to ask for to have a young, elite quarterback? In an unrelated note, I do feel like this offense needs to be adjusted more to McNabb's skill set. Good coordinators adjust to the players they have. I think we need to see the offense get the ball out quicker for one, because we all know our line can't block enough to consistently have 5 and 7 step drops.
