I agree that the Panthers are basically just posturing in saying they are taking him if he declares for the same reason others have stated, don't devalue the pick. In the grand scheme of things, the Panthers would probably be better served trading down and filling many holes as opposed to staying put and adding to one position while still having many to fill. That is the same stance we need to take. If we can make a reasonable deal with out bankrupting the team of all of its draft picks over the next few years, then try, otherwise, taking the best available or trade down and add more picks.
It would be to the Panthers' advantage to develop both Clausen and Luck. As a rebuilding team, it would be an asset for them to have a tradeable QB.
