Not saying anyone is doing that here, just saying since the end of last season, I've seen a lot of people elsewhere take the pessimistic antagonist route, claiming they expect nothing for the team, only to rage/I-told-you-so when they fail.
I think you can be realistic about the football team without dooming them to being noncompetitive and losing.
