I agree with your overall point but I disagree with the above.
Good OCs make players better.
That's the whole point of coaching to take the talent you have and make them better.
For example:
Chan Gailey: Ryan Fitzpatrick,Tyler Thigpen
Josh McDaniels: Kyle Orton, Matt Cassell
Mike Shanahan+Bobby Turner: Almost every RB they've ever had
etc....
