Golf, by far. Though I wouldn't call it a niche, it gets better TV ratings than the NHL. For me the best sporting events of the year go:
1) Any Redskins game
2) NFL Playoffs/Super Bowl
3) NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament
4) The Masters
5) US Open
6) British Open
7) PGA
