Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of a modern day professional athalete who isn't materialistic?

Actually yeah. He's retired now, but do you remember Robert Smith, RB for the Vikings? He made good money, I don't remember how much but I know it was over $1 million per season for a good while. He lived in a house that would probably be worth about $400,000-$500,000. Pretty nice house of course, but something that many American families can afford at some point in their lives. He saved almost all of his money, socking it away into investments. He was very financially savvy, he always said I'd rather go ahead and make my living now playing football and be able to retire and spend time with my children, rather than have to go to work doing something else. He was a serious breath of fresh air.
