My father talked to a guy who runs everything there in Rodanthe, he said during the storm, most water damage was done by the sound and wind has pushed some much water to land that you could look out 100 yards in the sound and it was like a dessert when the eye passed....on the other side of the eye the wind was the worst. When the ass end of the storm showed back up, it took the water from the sound and shot it towards the island. The sound is what flooded everything. The guy said the eye of the hurricane was surreal.

They will close it up. To many people affect by doing nothing and a ferry will cost more money in the long run. Its only sand and there is plenty around to fill that hole.
