The Redskins did try to get Leinart after the lockout. If Mike Shanahan thinks that John Beck is in developmental mode, and he's the QB of the future, then he needs to have his head examined. I don't see how he could think Beck is the qb of the future, unless he's enamored with inaccurate throws, intentional grounding, happy feet, throwing to the guy he picks pre-snap instead of progressing through his reads, not trusting his offensive line, using his mobility to run into defensive players, showing a general inability to make plays, and having his defense spend way too much time on the field. If that's the case, then Beck is his guy. Oh yeah and also being 0-7 as a starting qb in the NFL.
