I stated that it's not all just about Peyton, it's about him learning a new system AND his teamates & coaches adapting to him. He had full control it appeared in Indy for all those years. Can't assume he would have that here or anywhere else. The coaching staff & players would have to adjust to him as well. He's no spring chicken either, how much change would you want to bring upon your organization for a 36 year old? Better in the long run to do that w/a rookie.
As for him coming in & being given full 'control' over the offense, how would that be for team morale? I'm sure Shanny would adapt some things to fit Peyton, but coaching staffs don't gut their entire system for a player unless they're hiring a new coordinator.

Note - my comments were related to him learning a OUR scheme that returning Skin's players have been in for a year or two depending on who they are. He is definitely uber competitive and an extremely smart guy who could pickup any offensive scheme IMHO.
And BTW - I know that the Shanahan's like mobile QB's so they can run their entire offense. I could see that as a primary reason not to pursue Manning but not because of things you mention above.
It's all good and a healthy debate...
