First: So all the picks they gave away are technically all under the Shanahan regime. They go right up to the end of his 5 year contract, which I think is a bit of coincidence and necessity. Hell, latest reports were CLE would match the deal, so I'm sure they were strong in the running along with other teams which we don't know about that drove the price up.

Even if they do go 2-14, 3-13 (don't think they will), they can't can Shanahan. Have to give him a year to break the kid in, even if it means taking a beating. Peyton went 3-13 his first year, the Colts didnt can Mora, they were 13-3 in his second.

As for what other teams had offered. Cleveland from what I have read was offering the two 1's this year plus some combo of 2's and 3's. Skins had to give the extra 1 to beat it and because of the uncertainty. No guarantee the Skins pick next year will be earlier than the Browns 22nd overall.
