Yeah obliviously the better situation is Shaka stays, but if he leaves its definitely not the end of the world. Not only are we used to it we get benefits because of it; like scheduling 2 games against a team like Illinois that would otherwise prove impossible. Also lets pretend that Shaka wanted to stay w VCU for something crazy like 10+ years. If he left after a long time it would cause major disruption. When turnover is inevitable a mid length time horizon is best.
If he does end up staying I think we will start next season ranked in the top 25 or at least receive a considerable amount of votes to be. Next year we also start the season off with a extremely rare chance that allows a hot mid-major to play teams like Duke, Memphis, Stanford, Louisville, Missouri, Minnesota, and Kansas in a Thanksgiving day tourney. We also get Alabama when Grant makes his contractual homecoming. Last year it didn’t make a lot of sense for Shaka to take a gamble to increase his stock. Next year it actually does.
