LaMont Jordan hasn't shown the potential to be anything other than a short-yardage back. I think the Jets know they can do without him, and are hoping his Maryland pedigree will be a selling point for us. Portis may have his faults, but they don't lie within his on-field performance or his potential - Jordan's faults do.
Don't be so sure we won't have the Jets first rounder, anyway. I see them as prime candidates for a trade-up scenario. If they don't make waves in free agency (and they probably won't), Bradway will need to make a big pick to save his skin...again. (And trading up for DeWayne Robertson worked so well last time!) If we decide to trade down, the Jets will be listening.
