Re: Hughes Leaving
Guess this is why a lot of people said we should have taken a guard in the draft. Maybe it was just a career year for Hughes and true he's not the greatest shooter, but he was a great defender, did all the little things and we were starting to develop something with Hughes, Arenas and Jamison. Seems like the initial offer was too low.
Moving forward though what do the Wizards do now? Here are some possibilites:
Juan Dixon: First off there is no guarantee that he'll stay. Secondly he serves the team better as a sparkplug off the bench.
Jarvis Hayes: This is a possibility, it will give us a lot of size. That's for sure
Bobby Simmons: Solid player, would get plenty of good looks with Arenas and Jamison drawing most of the attention, but seems more suited to play small forward
Cuttino Mobley: Possible, but doesn't seem to be to willing to be a third option offensively. And his defense is rather ordinry
Joe Johnson: If we weren't going to pay for Hughes, we're not paying for JJ
Latrell Sprewell: Too expensive and too old
Michael Finley: Running on empty practically
Trade Kwame for a shooting guard, first name that comes to mind is Bonzi Wells
I'd seriously consider going after one of the young shooting guards like Maurice Evans (Kings), or DerMarr Johnson (Nuggets). Or even Keith Bogans. I wouldn't mind it if the Wizards found a diamond in the rough free agent
Lots of options, glad I don't have to be the one to make the decision
